Subtle Anti-Aging Enhancements They’ll Never Suspect

The latest buzz in anti-ageing treatments is all about “tweakments” – these are subtle enhancements that give your skin a fresh glow without making it look like you’ve had work done. Beauty expert Alice-Hart Davis breaks it down for us.

Tweakments are cosmetic medical procedures that fall somewhere between a regular facial and full-blown cosmetic surgery. They include treatments like Botox, fillers, skin peels, intense pulsed light (IPL), lasers, and thread lifts. These procedures are non-invasive or minimally invasive, offering clear but temporary results that are usually quite subtle. If you choose your doctor carefully, you’ll avoid that ‘overdone’ look.

I’m Alice-Hart Davis, and I’ve even written a book on the subject called “The Tweakments Guide: Fresher Face.” Plus, I’ve set up a website, thetweakmentsguide.com, to explain all these treatments, how they work, and whether they might be right for you. The website also has a list of top practitioners across the country. I talk about tweakments all the time because many people are still unclear about what they are and what they do. The more open and honest we are about this topic, the better people will understand these procedures.

When I first started writing about these treatments 20 years ago, they were quite a secret. Back then, the idea of having things like Botox seemed shocking—who would want to inject poison into their faces just to look younger? But times have changed, and the stigma around such treatments has lessened.

Today, there are many more options available. Twenty years ago, choices were mostly limited to collagen injections and Botox. Now, there are laser facials, ultrasound skin tightening, microneedling, and injectable gels that can last six months and promote real skin regeneration.

Interest in tweakments has definitely grown. A Mintel report last year indicated that 43% of people surveyed were interested in trying non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

Initially, tweakments were all about anti-ageing—using Botox to minimize frown lines and fillers to smooth out nose-to-mouth lines, mainly targeting older people. But now, people of all ages use fillers to enhance lip shape, cheek definition, and jawline contours. Treatments like Profhilo can boost skin hydration, while ultrasound therapy offers a non-surgical facelift effect.

Younger people are particularly open about these treatments, and often share their results on social media. Nowadays, there are more practitioners than ever, which sounds great, except there’s very little regulation in this field. This means many providers lack proper training and experience.

If you’re looking for a great practitioner, check out those registered on my website—they’re professionals I’m happy to recommend.
